The Allen-Bradley 1747-L542 SLC 500 Controller Processor is a mid-range SLC 5/04 controller, holding 32kb of user memory while still capable of handling 4,096 inputs and outputs. The L542 is used with modular style hardware, and installed in slot Zero of any SLC rack. The processor includes an integrated RS232 and DH+ communication port, allowing it to communicate with computer-based systems such as HMIs or SCADA. It can also be used to implement pass-through communication, or for messaging for other systems such as PLC-5 or ControlLogix PLCs.
