The Allen-Bradley 1756-ENET ControlLogix Ethernet Communication Module controls real time I/O data (also known as "implicit messaging") in conjunction with a Logix 5550 controller. The Ethernet module may serve as an adapter, interfacing the I/O modules to the network, or as a scanner, sending and receiving data between the controller and the network.
The module also supports messaging data for configuration and programming information, operator interfaces, etc., also known as "explicit messaging."
The module supports both Rack Optimized and Direct Connections. A direct connection is a real-time data transfer link between the controller and the device that occupies the slot that the configuration data references. A rack optimized connection is a grouping of data from more than one I/O module into a single block of data sent over a single connection.
